Why did he cancel his honeymoon and go sit in bethel on his own? Lol. It's like he thought like a superhero who has to leave his love at the worst time - my planet needs me now! Or something. What a weirdo.

Why Do JWs Think Bankruptcy Is Not Wrong? Does Pioneering Blot out Theft?
by BucketShopBill ini mentioned a few elders on one of the highest viewed judicial committee videos filed bk, one of them has done it 3 times and feels no remorse!
my post is not to attack people who really need to avail themselves of a legal process because bad things happen to good people.
the economic climate had and can change radically!

New Worldly Translation
I also remember being told that bankruptcy precluded you from privileges like elder, ms. I also knew a few elders who did file bk, and one who did it numerous times. As with a lot of JW rules it depended who you were as to how you were dealt with. Brothers who ran their own companies were often looked up to (even though you weren't supposed to be impressed by material things ;-)
some of the examples given above are outright fraud though! Hard to know how they can reconcile their conscience with such shady dealings.

Anyone Seen This
by lambsbottom inhttp://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2691254/how-jehovahs-witnesses-got-street-smart-believers-swap-infamous-doorstepping-standing-outside-train-stations-shops.html.
it's a practice that's been the butt of jokes for decades: a pair of jehovah's witnesses turning up suited and booted on your doorstep.. but the days of the 140-year-old religious order's members trudging door-to-door in the rain could soon be numbered.. thousands have switched tactics to stand on street corners in more than a dozen cities across britain - and unusually for public preachers, they are staying almost completely silent.. leaders believe it is a better tactic in modern britain, where people do not like being approached directly and prefer browsing as if in a shop.. three years after the same tactic was introduced in new york, witnesses have been standing on pavements in at least 13 cities across britain and handing out tens of thousands of magazines.. unlike other evangelical preachers, they do not shout or call attention to themselves - instead standing in near-silence until someone approaches them.. 'i guess that's just not our style,' said mark o'malley, a spokesman for the jehovah's witnesses at their london headquarters.. 'we have used inventive approaches down the years.
we used "sound cars" in the 1930s which would relay lectures in the street from megaphones on the roof.. 'radio was used a lot later on and our members wore placards and sandwich boards.

That Ikea story is funny, haven't heard that analogy before, haha. The Jdubs must have hit saturation point going door to door and are getting no interest at all. I left 10 years ago and I would regularly take my magazines out for a walk without placing any or having a decent conversation with anyone.
I've heard about JW's running literature stalls at local markets too. Man, it must be piss easy to get pioneer hours in now the lazy arses.

How many things did you toss out in the name of Jehoover
by love2Bworldly ini had a flash back yesterday.
my non jw husband and i went to disneyland and bought my young daughter a set of 7 dwarf toys.
after a few months i felt guilty and threw them away, thinking they were demonized.
-
New Worldly Translation
I don't think I personally threw anything away but my mother was continually throwing things out cos of demonz!
My parents once burned pretty much everything I owned once when I first left the org, books, dvd's, games, various clothes. My dad found my copy of crisis of conscience. Most of it was innocuous though and I had quite a lot of books which I was proud of. They left 3 and the choice I always found curious; an illustrated history of Disney, Lewis Carroll's complete works and a biography of morecambe and wise. It made it easier to move though when I eventually went to university later that year.
all the family are jw's and if they get given things from each other it very often goes in the bin, its all a bit crazy.
my parents have recently retired and my dad took his pension as a lump sum. They threw out virtually everything in the house and bought new even though they have massive credit card debts and loans. For many years my mum has said she hears things and feels things touching her, that she figures are demons. I think she might have a form of schizophrenia tbh, the family have a history of it.

Strange days
by New Worldly Translation ini haven't had chance to post on jwd recently but reading some posts the last few months it seems that many friends on the board are going through rough times because of the jehovah`s witness cult.
my heart goes out to them and hope everything turns out well especially those who have been rejected by spouses, children and family or maybe have the prospect of being shunned if they act according to their conscience.
i don't know what`s going on at the meetings as i haven't set foot in one for 4 years but it seems jw's are being whipped up into another armageddon frenzy and are therefore putting pressure on ex-jw's to rejoin.

I don't know what`s going on at the meetings as I haven't set foot in one for 4 years but it seems JW's are being whipped up into another armageddon frenzy and are therefore putting pressure on ex-JW's to rejoin. It seems to coincide with CO's visits.
My parents have been acting especially mental recently. I'm used to the ongoing psychological pressure that they try to exert by saying I'll be destroyed soon or that if I'm not a JW I'm on Satan's side or that I've turned my back on the family. The past couple of weeks though they've tried a different tack.
They said that because I was Satanic my belongings had brought demons into the house. It kicked off originally because they saw a gun on my copy of Half-Life 2 and threw it out. They then burned my Alan Bennet books because he's a homosexual and burned my Richard Dawkins books because he supports evolution. They then decided to systematically ransack the house for anything they viewed as dodgy or 2nd hand. They found my Ray Franz books and books on biblical criticism which I had hidden so they saw this as justification for their actions. By this point I'd had enough and left. I spent the next two weeks camping near Southampton and wondering what to do next. I eventually went back as they seemed to have calmed down and said the house was no longer demonised.
When I got back there seemed to be more space in the house, and that was because they had burned every book that I owned and thrown out every DVD and all my PC software regardless of there content. I was in a state of shock, I was quite proud of my library of books and DVD's which I had collected through the years. There was probably thousands of pounds worth of stuff destroyed but that didn't bother me too much , what upset me was their lack of compassion for how I would feel. They have never apologised but instead bombard me with stories of demons afflicting people and that because I was on satan's side that's why I was depressed (nothing to do with losing my job, my flat, my girlfriend and having a mental family)
I really think at the moment that I never want to see them again but there's no quick escape. I've joined a charity that finds you volunteer work on organic farms and in exchange the farmer gives you accomodation and meals. I'm off down to Somerset to work at one of these farms on Sunday for I'm not sure how long, maybe 4 or 5 months as an indefinite stay isn't an option. So I'll be away from JWD for a while as I'll be staying in a caravan. I'm looking forward to it really, it'll be an experience I haven't tried before as I've always worked in IT or finance. Long term I'm not sure what's happening. It feels kinda surreal at the moment.
Amyway thanks for listening, I appreciate the opportunity to get this stuff off my chest. -

Books that SHOULD be movies?
by gaiagirl ini just finished reading "mammoth" by john varley.
a sci-fi thriller in which a mammoth is found frozen in northern alaska, along with the frozen bodies of a man and woman.
however, as they are uncovered, it is seen that the man is wearing a wristwatch.

Megadude - I'm pretty sure Into The Wild is being made as a film at the moment. I agree it's an excellent story and hopefully will be a great film.
Ironically I stumbled across that book while reading Jack London novels and mistyped Call of the Wild into Google. Londons books would make good films especially Hearts of Three.
When I was a teenager I loved the Tripods Trilogy by John Christopher. It was made into a series years ago on British TV but it wasn`t very good. I think it would make a good young adult sci-fi film. -

The Tower of Babel... What's up with that?
by LtCmd.Lore inseriously,,, what was gods problem?
the story of babel bothered me for quite a while.
after all, satan made a few challenges right?
-
New Worldly Translation
The languages aspect of the story has some holes in it too. According to bible chronology the Tower of Babel story took place about 2400 BC but several written languages have been found that pre-date this, some by a thousand years.
Also Genesis in earlier chapters admits that there were more than one language in the world
Genesis 10v5
By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations
Genesis 10v20
These are the sons of Ham, after their families, after their tongues, in their countries, and in their nations
Genesis 10v31
These are the sons of Shem, after their families, after their tongues, in their lands, after their nations
There's an abrupt change between the end of chapter 10 and the start of the Nimrod story in chapter 11. It looks like a folklore tale that's been added into the Pentateuch at some point without much regard for the content of scriptures around it.
You might as well believe Aesop's 'pride before a fall' type morality tales are literally true. -

Acts or Gospels? Who is Right?
by sammielee24 inin the bible paul takes issue with peter regarding his hypocrisy - his objection eating with gentiles.
surely peter would have remembered jesus doing this.
jesus last words were to basically go preach to the world - which would be gentiles.
-
New Worldly Translation
Jesus' raison d'etre was to preach to jews only
"Go nowhere among the Gentiles, and enter no town of the Samaritans, but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." (Matthew 10:5,6)
"I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." (Matthew 15:24)
"It is not fair to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs." (Matthew 15:26) - Talking about gentiles
"Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost." (Luke 19:9,10)
Jesus ministry never extended into gentile lands and the decision to preach to gentiles was only later taken after Peter had his revelation. Jesus 'world' was the jewish world; the children of Israel. The story of the roman centurion in Matthew is more than likely a later interpolation considering the rest of the context of Matthew, it's negative attitude towards non-jews and other interpolations in the gospels meant to appease the roman authorities.
The scripture in Matthew is where Jesus says preach to all nations is regarded as a later amendment by the early church fathers. This is obvious considering the ministry never extended to gentiles in Jesus' lifetime and also when Peter decided it was ok to preach to gentiles some years later it caused a furious controversy. -

Big Screen TV: LCD or Plama? Which Brand?
by UnConfused inanyone with personal experience concerning big screen tv's?
-
New Worldly Translation
I've been researching HDTV's for a while too before I risk buying one.
The conclusion I came to was Pioneer make some of the best Plasma's but they are pricey. Panasonic are very good too and more reasonably priced.
For LCD Sony and Samsung are very good.If the weight and depth isn't a major factor I still reckon DLP produces some of the best quality pictures on a HDTV. DLP seems to have lost a bit of ground versus LCD & Plasma but the tech is great and Texas Instruments who I think invented it are rolling out 3D DLP soon. Something to watch out for.
